Two weeks ago, the doctors sent us the bad news giving us two options, telling us one week without transfusion and two weeks with transfusion. Thank God for His miracles, Mom has beaten the two weeks mark without any transfusions. God, we'll keep relying on you completely. Everything is a blessing!
20121230 Sunday - Mom slept pretty well last night, from 11pm to 5am. After church, I came down with 4 Gu Jeh first and Mom was getting up. Thank God for the perfect timing. She was very tired still and needed more rest. She fell asleep shortly after. I guess that's cause of her rough day yesterday.
Gloria, the boys, my in-laws, Grandma, Uncle Ed and Auntie Tiana went yum cha after church before coming down. Since Mom just fell asleep, we just all gathered at the "Quiet Room". Of course we all greeted Mom and sent our kisses to her from far. So they didn't stay long. I also went back up later for dinner at home. God is good. After dinner and bathing the boys, I came back down to see Mom again. She was kinda up and the timing was again perfect! Mom was very energetic for a good hour before going back to sleep. The doctor said Mom looks very stable as she's breathing, peeing good. All her vital signs are looking pretty good too. God, are You performing miracles again? We will be faithful regardless!
20121231 Monday - New Year's Eve. With Mom's sleeping schedule, I got to spend some more time with my family and in-laws in the morning and lunch before going down with 4 Gu Jeh.
Mom didn't really sleep until 5am according to Dad (cuz' Fian was sleeping haha). Then Mom started sleeping after and she pretty much slept the whole day. Sorry Pastor Hubbert (and Bernice), you probably missed Mom...
When we arrived, she was up briefly again for like a few minutes. She was sleeping on her side and just turned back to her back during the brief wake. Thanks for your little gifts for Mom and Dad, Auntie Margaret. God knows everyone of us even if you may not know Him. He listens even when you are not sure how to pray. So, thank you!!!
Mom finally got up at 5ish in the afternoon. We moved her on her side, sitting her up, putting her on the chair, then putting her back to bed. We even "FaceTimed" the boys while they were busy playing with Avery, Evan, Preston and QQ. She was then up pretty much the whole evening. Derek brought oysters, Carly and Tyler brought salad, chicken, veggie and quinoa, Uncle Ed and Auntie Tiana bought Grandma's turnip cake, spicy pork stomach soup, and dessert. Gloria and the boys finished eating before coming down and they also brought mussels, rice, turkey, and cheesecakes. Right on, another feast in the "Quiet Room" again for us.
Mom saved all her energy to greet the boys (after giving Dad a hug when Dad gave her a kiss). She even managed to kiss them. However, the doctor said after the seizure, her brain sorta bleed (like a minor stroke). Her tongue rolled back a little so it made her hard to talk. It's very frustrating to her I know. The pain control is going well but I'm not sure if this is quality when Mom can't talk, can't move and can't eat, can't be well even when she's up. Not our problem, God will handle.
4 Gu Jeh and I left before the countdown, I still get to kiss Gloria at midnight! The rest of them celebrated the new year with half asleep Mom in the hospital! They were celebrating in silent, hahaha - so funny. Just imagine them saying happy new year, hugging, kissing, laughing, etc. all in mute, hahaha. God is good. Happy New Year 2013 Mom! I LOVE YOU FOREVER! May God bless you, just like how He's been in the past.
20130101 Tuesday - Happy New Year. That's right, with His grace, Mom has beaten another prediction by human once again. She was such a sleeping beauty today, sleeping from 1:30am until almost 2pm. Since Mom was sleeping well, I went new year dim sum with my family, my in-laws before heading down. I also invited 4 Gu Jeh so she could spend some time with us. Jonah just couldn't stop calling Gu Por the whole time.
Mom didn't really wake up when we got there at around 2pm but we know she's alert. The nurses were very nice trying to accommodate her sleeping schedule. They made her two new "butterflies" (new ones required each four to five days) and cleaned her. They also kept changing her sleeping position to reduce pressure on her back/side. Mom then fell back asleep right after.
Later in the afternoon, my other set of parents came say bye as they are heading back to HK tomorrow. Gloria and the boys, of course, were tagging along. Even though they didn't get to see Mom up, it's all good. Jonah said, "Wake up Jeff" (a song by The Wiggles) when Mom didn't respond to him. I don't know how to explain to the boys sometimes. Hopefully, all the pictures and videos can remind them about how much Mah Mah loves them in the future.
Grandma also came with Uncle Ed. Her spongy cake was still one of my favorites. Thank God for Mom, for setting us good examples. Grandma is sad, yet very strong and faithful. She even asked us not to worry. I'm especially touched with joy when Uncle Ed was sharing with Grandma about who's in control. I know the seed has been planted. Thank God. I'm sure Mom is sharing the same joy with me.
Thanks for dropping by, Curt (Tyler's Dad). Enjoy your stay here in 416/647/905! They boys had so fun with Tyler and Carly as usual. I then went back up for New Year's dinner before coming back down. Daddy David and Mommy Annie, thanks for the treat. (Thanks Barry and Jessica too, haha - now you know where I went).
When I came back, Mom was getting up. Thank God for the perfect timing once again. She couldn't talk but her mind was still very clear. She showed us that she wanted to get up! That's right, we helped her sit up, stand up and sit down on the chair! We "chatted" for a good 30-40mins while we were massaging her, cleaning her, putting lotions at her back, etc. the nurses came again afterwards to take over to make sure Mom was back at a comfortable sleeping position. God is amazing. Her hair is growing back, and it's black! Her bumps on her chest and her arms are not as big. Other than not being able to eat/swallow and needed to sleep always, she is not bad. The doctor said Mom is still stable and shouldn't have anything that is unpredictable in this coming few days. However, the sleep is not due to the medication but most likely cuz' of her leukemia.
Dad thanked me in a very serious tone last night. I said, "Sor la" (don't be silly). Dad, it's my honor to be part of this family and it's a blessing to be able to do what I can do now as a family.
"Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. I cling to you; your right hand upholds me." (Psalm 63:3, 6-8 NIV)
