Chemo Started...

The first week in Princess Margaret Hospital has passed.   Mom's condition has gone from critical to a bit more stable.  My trust in God has also gone from "super worried" low to totally faithful.  I guess it's normal to know how weak we are as human beings...

20121019 Friday - The heart ultrasound shows that Mom has a strong heart according to the doctors.  That means chemo can start as soon as Saturday.  I didn't visit Mom this night (first time).  After fellowship, it was a bit late and she wanted to save us a trip and rest up.  So, we just Skyped with her.  Mom was tired but not bad in general.  She had some really good sleep these days, Dad too.  I think she's getting used to the environment already.

20121020 Saturday - Chemo Day 1: after Chinese School (Jake), we headed downtown after a quick bite.  We wanted to visit her with the boys before her chemo starts, as per Carly's recommendation.  We bought her some Chinese desserts from China Town but they weren't good at all, hahaha.  The boys had fun crashing the whole floor as expected.  God has planned to have us all there when Mom started her chemo.  Yes, even Fian was watching the whole time inside the iPad.  This is a 3+7 chemo therapy which means she'll have this red bag injected for 10-15mins the first three days while the other transparent bag slowly dripped in for 24 hours for seven days.

Day 1-3: DAUNORVBICIN
Day 1-7: ARA-C

The nurses offered Dad a sofa bed.  So, he won't have any excuses not being able to get up anymore, hahaha.

20121021 Sunday - Chemo Day 2: Mom had fever and cold sweat at night after the chemo.  Dad helped her to ease it off by putting cold towels on her hands and legs.  She felt good enough to fall asleep before midnight.  Thank God.  Her body may react to the treatment more later though.  We trust that God will keep holding her hands all the way.  I found the best time for me to visit her on Sundays are at night, just like weeknights.

Thanks for the flowers, card and the little cross.  Besides the daily soup/congee, Auntie Constance was fantastic enough to borrow her MP3 player loaded with tons of songs and sermons for Mom, so she can be well fed spiritually on top of her always filled tummy.  She loved the hard copy pictures btw Auntie Esther and Uncle Alex.  Thanks Ng's+!!!  Dad had fun eating out with you guys.

Pray that this chemo therapy will keep her blast cells under control.  Even though Mom is a strong (and stubborn) woman, please pray that Mom's side effect is bearable.  Pray also that Grandma in HK won't be worried too much about her daughter's condition.

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” (Ephesians 6:1-3)
